Think Peace Is Impossible?
THINK AGAIN.
The Peace Center is one of the very few peace and justice organizations from the Vietnam War era that have been able to sustain themselves and continue to thrive and grow. For nearly four decades, the Peace Center has proudly established itself as a force for progressive social change in Western New York and beyond.

A Message from the Chair of the Western New York Peace Center
As many of you already know, there is much going on with the Western New York Peace Center-and not all of it is in keeping with the principals that all of us have come to expect from an organization that is so well established in the community.
This message is being sent to set the record straight and move forward.
As you well know, we have recently suffered the departure of our beloved staff, both the Director and the Assistant. As a result of cumulative issues, problems and extreme negative financial health, and on the advice of legal counsel, the Board has taken the action of temporarily suspending the programs of the WNY Peace Center.
This action did not come lightly, and it did not come without much serious deliberation and discussion. As a result, the Board decided that a General membership meeting was to be called to discuss, outline and collaborate on the future and direction of the WNY Peace Center.
It was not then, nor is it now, the intention of the Board that these actions remain permanent, but they were necessary to right a seriously financially burdened organization.
Since that meeting, it has come to the attention of the legally constituted board of the Peace Center that, in the absence of our recently departed staff, there has been some action by a small group of members to act independent of the diligent efforts of the board. Perhaps a well intentioned, but extremely premature course of action. It has apparently caused much confusion, contention and dissension amongst the members. As a result, we can only ask, in the name of Peace and legitimacy, for your continued patience as we come to terms with the direction of the organization.
Most recently, many of you received a post card, ostensibly from the WNY Peace Center, that detailed two upcoming meetings. Please know that this was not sent by the legitimate representatives of the Peace Center, indeed, your Peace Center board had set only one meeting date prior to the distribution and mailing of that post card. That date is Saturday, September 25, at 1 P.M. in Room 100, Allen Hall, UB South Campus. Enter the parking lot from Main St, near Allen Hall.
I would like to caution that any decisions arrived at outside of the duly called meetings by the Board of the WNY Peace Center, to include the meeting that took place Monday, August 16, 2010 have no bearing whatsoever on the agenda, or future direction of the WNY Peace Center. Please direct all questions, suggestions and comments directly to myself, at PCboardchair@aol.com.
Thank you all for your time, your well wishes and your energy moving forward. With your help and efforts, we look forward to a vibrant and healthy organization to represent the peaceful interests of Western New York well into the future.
Yours in Peace,
Jim Anderson
Chair, Western New York Peace Center
