Camp Peaceprints 2010

The SSJ Sister Karen Klimczak Center for Nonviolence is hosting the 2^nd Annual Camp Peaceprints, an alternative summer camp. It is a 2 week long day camp, running July 12 - 23, Monday - Friday, 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. at St Margaret‘s School, 1395 Hertel Ave. The camp is for youth ages 8 -13, with roughly 25 - 30 participants daily. People 14 years of age or older can register to become camp assistants. The cost is $100 a week, with sliding scale payments and scholarships available.

Campers will learn about social issues. The theme of the first week is Environmental and Social Justice and Responsibility. The second week will be devoted to Community Building & Change.

Each Wednesday the group takes a field trip to a locally significant site.

Tuesdays and Thursdays we incorporate the arts as forms of social justice.

Fridays we focus on nonviolent strategies and leadership and character development.

We have daily speakers from other organizations.

Camp Peaceprints will be co-led by Vivian Waltz and Vicki Ross. Vivian's the Director of the SSJ Sister Karen Center for Nonviolence and has extensive experience in both ministry and youth development. She will be an ordained Minister by the end of June. Vicki is a licensed social worker and longtime peace activist. Vicki and Vivian will be joined by Ellen Moomaw, who is a member of the WNY Peace Center and a teacher with the East Aurora Public School System. There will be further help by staff members from Erie County's Strengthening Families Program (ECCPASA). There will also be additional rotating adult volunteers.
