Peace Action
The Peace Action Taskforce is the main WNY affiliate of both Peace Action and United for Peace and Justice. Peace Action, formed by the merger of SANE and the Nuclear Freeze, is the largest grassroots peace organization in the county. It advocates a new approach to U.S. foreign policy, prioritizing non-violent means of dealing with conflict. United for Peace is the major national coalition of organizations working against the Iraq War. Our Peace Action Taskforce has organized numerous local demonstrations against the Iraq War, often attracting significant media attention. In addition, the taskforce has carried out extensive lobbying campaigns with our federal officials both here and at their offices in Washington, D.C.
Peace Action is our response to U.S. militarism, in general, and the ongoing war in Iraq of late Anti-war tactics include coordinating rallies, letter-writing campaigns, and targeted actions designed to pressure elected officials to:
- Withdraw support for the war machine,
- Vote against war money and against nuclear proliferation, and
- Support policies that will help our world become a safer, more peaceful place.
The Peace Action arm of the Peace Center is strongly collaborative in nature, working together with a number of like-minded organizations to mobilize rapid responses to current events that compromise human safety and basic rights.
See pictures from our "No War, No McSame Protest", a protest calling on McCain to change his positions on Iraq and potentially attacking Iran.
