Another busy week! It includes the #loveisloveBUF campaign kickoff, where someone’s mean-spirited and dangerous sign-burning will help ignite our movement. Activists of Buffalo, Stronger Together WNY, and the WNYPC invite others to share in this campaign – see below.

LASC Peace Coffeehouse: Belize & Guatemala
7-9pm, Canisius College Science Hall (2001 Main St)
Laura McClusky and Michael Niman: Struggles of Southern Belize; A Three-Part Discussion
Southern Belize is majority indigenous Maya. Mostly rural farmers, Maya have been engaged in a decades long struggle for self-governance and for land. In recent years, International courts have judged in favor of the Maya and against the Government of Belize. Yet, Maya demands are still not being met.
Meanwhile, the new President of Guatemala has been pushing on the century old controversy of Belizean sovereignty. Military skirmishes have been taking place in the south as Guatemalans and Belizeans fight for border maintenance along the Sarstoon River.
Lastly, educated Maya running short-staffed thinly resourced organizations have been at the forefront of these struggles. Education is one of the ways Maya can help themselves and protect their heritage and the nation of Belize. The Maya Educational Foundation has limited resources to help. The talk will cover the basics of all three of these topics.

Thurs, Oct 5, 11am-1pm: From Trauma to Healing
Turning the Cycle of Violence into a Spiral of Healing. Come for an interactive WNYPC workshop that will build a safe space, share very different stories of Trauma to Healing, including that of Franz Ross, German Jew and facilitator’s father, who was such a radical in Nazi Germany that as a 15-year-old in 1933 Munich, he was told he must leave or he would be “taken care of.” We’re sure to be inspired by the stories, each other, and the strength of the Spirit as we explore routes to healing and forgiveness.

St. Joseph University SJC Gun Violence Awareness Subcommittee panel discussion (in the Community Room): Our guest panelists will be Tiffany Lankes and Lou Michel, Buffalo News reporters who wrote of the lingering effects of gun violence on Buffalo’s children. Tiffany is the Education reporter and Lou is the Crime reporter.

A similar sign has been produced and will be available at WNYPC events. First batch at Can Carl, September 27, 6pm, at Pilgrim St Luke’s.; Subversive Theatre; more … They will be available for free at WNYPC-sponsored events until supplies run out. Prisoners’ Rights Taskforce
Black Panther Party Political Prisoner Herman Bell was recently attacked by prison guards, after 20 years of incarceration with no disciplinary issues. For detail, click here. Resist Militarism! Taskforce
Please call your Senators and Congresspersons to urge them to:
– vote in favor and cosponsor if possible Senator Markey’s Bill # 200 and House Bill, Rep Lieu # 669, to affirm US will not be guilty of First Strike with Nuclear Weapons; and
– support signing on the Ban the Bomb Treaty being discussed now at the UN.
Support Roots Action’s call for a ban of weaponized drones. Our government is setting up killer drone bases all over the country and all over the world. The 107th Attack Squadron at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is slated to begin assassinations from there by the end of the year, possibly the end of the summer.
