INFRINGEMENT FESTIVAL: A Staged Theatrical Reading of “The Lonely Soldier Monologues: Women at War in Iraq,” by Helen Benedict – at Burning Books.

July 29, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

A submission for the 2017 Buffalo Infringement Festival, The WNY Peace Center presents a staged theatrical reading of “The Lonely Soldier Monologues:  Women at War in Iraq,” a play by Helen Benedict.

Directed by Kara Lynn Harris

Produced by special arrangement with Next Stage Press, Inc.

Described as a “non-fiction play,” “The Lonely Soldier Monologues: Women at War in Iraq,” is a subjective account of seven female soldiers’ experiences while serving in the Iraq war. Every word of the piece is verbatim, based on interviews the author conducted with former soldiers. The play brings to light complex and challenging issues faced by this diverse group of women during their service, including misogyny, sexual assault, trauma, and isolation.
