Our allies in Rochester are looking for people to show up Thursday morning at the Buffalo immigration court to show solidarity for one of their beloved community members who is facing deportation.  If anyone is able to do this, please let me know.  You’d show up a little before 9 and then enter court with other supporters (there is a metal detector and you can leave your things with security at the front in case) and stand witness to the proceedings.  Carly Fox from the Workers Justice Center has sent the message below to Meghan.  Her number is at the bottom if there are any questions. Thank you,
Carra

This is the info from Carly Fox:
The reason I write you though is to appeal to you to volunteer your time this Thursday morning to be a witness in immigration court in Buffalo. A long-term member of the Geneva community faces what could be her final court date and may be ordered deported.  I met her back in 2011 and she was a strong advocate for her community back then and I recently became re-acquainted with her though the launching of the Alianza Agricola group in Geneva.  I am hoping to be there with her in solidarity and to support her, even though I’m not sure how much we can stop her deportation at this point.  She is scheduled for 9am court and I am driving from Rochester if anyone would like to come with me from here.  I think we would be back to Rochester around noon at the latest.
Brief background is that she is a farmworker from Mexico, has a young son and a husband. She and her sister in law were passengers in a car coming from work in 2009 when their driver was pulled over by a county deputy in Yates county for talking on her cell phone and the officer inquired about the passenger’s nationality and then called Border Patrol on them, putting them into deportation proceedings.  She has no criminal charges and only wants to be able to stay to work and raise her son here.
Thanks all, please feel free to reach out with questions. My phone number is 585-500-9409, but texts and emails are best to be honest.
