The historic Poor People’s Campaign is going beautifully!

The Monday kick-off went wonderfully well!! Many thanks to Kirk, Dennice, CEJ generally and the so many who worked and went! Turnout was good at ~450-500 people, and those who risked arrest were not even arrested!

This Sunday, 5/20 – 5:15-8pm Watch Party at Raqs (Thanks, Eve!!) 322 Amherst St. Debrief from Monday’s trip and watch Rev Barber and all livestreaming. Potluck.

This Monday 5/21 Virginia McIntyre is going on and looking to carpool (2 cars possible). Anyone who want to join can email her at vlmcintyre@outlook.com. Also they could register here for that week Click here to join us next Monday for Week 2 in Albany!

Tues, May 22 Nonviolent Direct Action Training – Poor People’s Campaign @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Come on out for shared learning of the principles, spirit, and practices for Nonviolent Direct Action training, especially for the Poor People’s Campaign and it’s 40 days of action to run starting Mothers’ Day. Tues, May 29 Bus to Albany, leaving at 3:45 from UB South Park & Ride. Stand against Militarism and the War Economy, and for Education. Coming back midnight or later if need be, waiting til those who risked arrest are free. Link – when available – will be on PPC-WNY FB page and the website and fb page of WNY Peace Center. You can let us know in the office (332-3904; office@wnypeace.org) to make a reservation.

As for June 4-5, we are mostly likely having some kind of bus trip tbd: could be an overnight, could include stops or not. Happy Mothers’ Day Eve! Remember it was started by mothers who lost sons in the Civil War to protest war and its carnage. Read the proclamation by Julia Ward Howe (1870) here.

Join us for the historic Poor People’s Campaign kick-off trip to Albany on May 14 – Theme: “Somebody’s Hurting My People, & It’s Gone On Far Too Long!” (It’s also a great song!) Special attention will also be paid to child poverty, Women, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, and the Green Light Program (especially important for immigrants and refugees; and which is also rallying in Albany). We are so excited about the FreeNY campaign, working to right the injustices in the criminal “Just-us” system. Please join us on Weds, March 14 to bus to Albany (no payment needed) to lobby for Bail reform and more! The bus will leave on the morning of March 14, at 4am at PUSH office, 4:30 am at South Campus UB Park & Ride. We expect to have returned by ~4pm from Albany. Please call Heron Simmonds, the WNYPC Racial Justice Taskforce Chair and organizer for Voice Buffalo, for details and to reserve a seat on the bus. See you there!!

– Poor People’s Campaign event planning Thurs, March 8 at 4pm at the WNYPC (1272 Delaware Ave, entrance & pkg round back near bldg.) – plan for Sharing Stories event to build the Beloved Community and prepare for the Poor People’s Campaign national kick-off Mothers’ Day plus 40 days of Action.

– Native American Community Services social at Medaille College, Friday, March 9, 5-9pm.

– Major Progress Program: Benefit for the WNYPC by the Dooleys and Hearsay, at DHU Strand Theatre, 540 Oliver St., North Tonawanda. 5:30 doors open (and best time to come if you didn’t already buy your $10 tickets here). BYOB and potluck!! A real happening – don’t miss it!!
