Immigrants, refugees, people without papers – when they are other-than-caucasian, that’s when there’s an issue, to paraphrase our of our wonderful speakers, Leila Cassandra Bocanegra. Black and brown families especially, Asian and Muslim families – families suffer, as her family has, when ICE and Border Patrol agents are stopping and harassing based on racial profiling. The suffering can be even worse with incarceration and/or deportation, tearing families apart and terrorizing whole communities
We had an intense evening of inspiration and shared grief, information and action planning, as our panel shared their knowledge and experience of all kinds re “Understanding ICE and Border Patrol – Protecting Immigrants.”

Here’s your opportunity to hear – for the first time or again – our interview with Dr. Michael E. Mann!
Dr. Mann is was a key researcher in putting for the “hockey stick” graph that first clarified that global warming was happening. He and his group shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore, and he was named one of Bloomberg’s 50 most Influential People in the World in 2013. He spoke in DC in last week’s March for Science, and is one of the most important voices in working to counter climate catastrophe.
Dr. Mann was kind enough to join us on our radio show, Talking Peace with the WNY Peace Center, on 91.3FM, WBNY, on Monday April 24. To listen, click http://geographyplanning.buffalostate.edu/MichaelMann.m4
Hosts Avery Edwards and Vicki Ross; Weather Medic Jack Kanack, and Environmental Justice Taskforce Chair Charley Bowman were also on the show. We discussed the National Days of Action, Climate Change/Climate Catastrophe, Non-violent direct action, and the way our many issues are interconnected.
The show is Mondays, 1-3pm – please join us any week. To hear it, go to wnby.buffalostate.edu or http://tunein.com/radio/WBNY-913-s27549/.
Dr. Mann also spoke at our 4/29 People’s Climate March, in solidarity with the climate marches taking place in DC and all over the country. Local leaders and youth also spoke. The more-than-500 who came out were energized by Dr. Mann’s words, as well as by the Indigenous traditions and statements shared by Maria Maybee and Agnes Williams, Seneca. Congressman Brian Higgins and other local activists also spoke. (See http://wnypeace.org/wp/2017/05/01/climatemarch-great-beautiful/ posting archived on this website.)

This Thursday’s die-in HAS BEEN MOVED TO WALDEN POND PARK (WALDEN AVE & RANSON RD, LANCASTER, NY 14086) rather than Congressman Chris Collins’ office. It’s still at 4:30-5:30pm tomorrow/Thurs, 5/11. Chris Collins and others who voted for the AHCA took coverage away from the most vulnerable to pay for tax breaks for the rich.
Thanks for the great turnout and spirit at the Immigrants Solidarity March/Rally last Saturday! While we’ll finally have a breather on National Days of Action, there’s still plenty to do every day. See events and campaigns below, and on our website (wnypeace.org) and Facebook page.
We’re hoping too that you’ve put our 50th Annual Membership Meeting and Pot/Snack-Luck, 2pm on Saturday, May 20, at the WNYPC/NRC, 1272 Delaware (entrance & pkg round back), on your calendar. Assessing, planning, and connecting is vital to our struggle and progress. And let’s pace ourselves!
Many Thanks, Peace, Solidarity, and yes Love. Cresley, Kate, Peggy, Vicki, and All
