Thank you to all who attended WNY PEACE CENTER’S 51st ANNUAL DINNER!! We so appreciate your continued involvement for peace and Justice, and your earnest support of the WNY Peace Center. For those who missed it, there’s always next year! In the meantime,

-getting involved with the WNY Peace Center through our task forces and committees, and
-volunteering with the office
are all part of the continuing work we’re doing! Please consider getting involved or expanding your involvement with us. We’re all in this together!

Also, thank you to the many who came out for the #RuleofLaw march where approximately 1000 showed up on less than 24 hours’ notice.

Tomorrow at 7pm, we will be cosponsoring – along with Buff State and the Burchfield Penney Art Center, where the event will take place – a screening and discussion of the Award-winning Film: The Unafraid. THE UNAFRAID shows us what it means to grow up both American and undocumented in the United States. Winner of the Full Frame Film Festival 2018 Kathleen Bryan Edwards Award for Human Rights, THE UNAFRAID is a feature length documentary that follows the personal lives of three DACA students in their quest for education.Please join us for this poignant movie and great panel: Gabriela Quintanilla, Associated Western NY Coordinator for Rural & Migrant Ministry & Founder and Director of Adelante Student Voices; and Luis Jimenez & Servando Jiminez – both affiliated with Allianza Agrícola, the Worker Justice Center of New York. Our own insightful, informative, and engaging Prof. Mike Niman, syndicated columnist and Buff State Communications Professor, will facilitate.

On the 40th Anniversary of the federal law passed in 1978 to recognize Native American children as citizens of their Native Nations. This right is being attacked in courts as race-based and therefore unconstitutional.

– NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW MARCH! Nationwide protest, as Trump forced Jeff Sessions to resign yesterday, & appointed Matthew Whitaker Acting Attorney General, who has publicly admitted he’s against the Mueller investigation.  Meet on the east side of Bidwell Park at Bidwell & Elmwood in Buffalo.  We will march down to W. Come out to hear Kathy Kelly, honor Betty Jean Grant and LASC, and celebrate, support, and connect for another year of activism and progress for a culture of justice and peace!

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Our Annual Dinner tickets are $60pp/$30student/lowincome. We will also be able to accommodate more people to come in for the keynote and awards portion only. Those who wish to attend the keynote speaker and award ceremony only can purchase tickets starting at $20, for entry to the event at 7pm.

Free parking is available at the Fernbach Ramp, one block south of the Convention Center (117-123 Franklin St.). The doors open at 5pm with a social hour, vendors, raffles and auctions. The dinner and program will begin at 6pm.

May today be a day of justice and peace, courage, joy, and blessings. That will give us strength as we #UnitetheStruggles.

Today you can life up your spirits by going to Riverside Salem for a Jam Session, (4-6 pm, 3449 West River Road, Grand Island; followed by a no worries potluck).

Tomorrow there’s a 10-1pm gathering at Campbell Student Union, Buffalo State College, for the National Stop The Violence Alliance. All are welcome. Followed directly by our radio show at Buff State’s wbny.com, where Jim Anderson has assembled a host of national and international experts on Japan and Nuclear Issues. Come find out more about National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug 7.

Then tomorrow (yes still Monday 8/6) there’s a Poor People’s Campaign Voter Registration Training at Planned Parenthood (Main & Amherst) at 6pm (over by 7pm). #PowertothePolls. This’ll help us with this critically important task! Again as usual, all are welcome!

Last but not least, come celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day on Thursday, August 9, from 2-8:30pm, and help us focus on a NuclearFree Future! We are always grateful to collaborate with the Indigenous Women’s Initiatives, who lead organize this fantastic event every year.
Come celebrate 11 years of the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples, with native/indigenous exhibits, films with audience discussions, foods (including no worries potluck!), singing, dancing, craft vendors, interfaith prayer service and a Japanese Lantern Ceremony at dusk.
