Global Days of Listening w/Afghan Peace Volunteers

November 21, 2020 @ 10:30 pm - November 22, 2020 @ 1:30 am EST

Listen to this Global Day of Listening “LIVE” via the livestream.  The UN World’s Children’s Day, on November 20th, magnifies our theme for this month’s Global Days of Listening:
The state of the world’s children, and actions for improvement.  In an “Open Letter to Children,” Henrietta H. Fore, UNICEF’s Executive Director, cites eight challenges children face today, including these:
  • Lack of clean water, clean air and a safe climate
  • One in four live and learn in conflict and disaster zones
  • Over 30 million have migrated from their place of birth
  • Lack of access to an education that will prepare them for contemporary job and business opportunities
For the Afghan Peace Volunteers, addressing personal and economic security is a priority needed to improve the lives of the world’s children. Covid-19 has had a radical impact on Kabul’s street vendors, street stalls and small shops. Prior to this, these self-employed sellers were a major source of jobs, but in the wake of this economic downturn, there has been a sharp increase in street violence. Similar examples of abject poverty have been reported in developing countries across the world.

The changes in the Western World, signal the possibilty for substantive shifts in focus. During the November Global Days conversation, we will be sharing hopes and visions of what might truly be possible, especially in the lives of children. We invite you to be part of the conversation!
