INFRINGEMENT FESTIVAL: A Staged Reading of “The Lonely Soldier Monologues: Women at War in Iraq,” by Helen Benedict.

August 3, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

A submission for the 2017 Buffalo Infringement Festival, The WNY Peace Center presents a staged theatrical reading of “The Lonely Soldier Monologues:  Women at War in Iraq,” a play by Helen Benedict. Directed by Kara Lynn Harris. Stellar cast!!! Produced by special arrangement with Next Stage Press, Inc.; and held at Burning Books. Don’t miss this hard-hitting, highly moving presentation – it is unforgettable, and brought the crowded venue to their feet with heart-felt accolades! Not to be missed!! Last currently scheduled performance.

Described as a “non-fiction play,” “The Lonely Soldier Monologues: Women at War in Iraq,” is a subjective account of seven female soldiers’ experiences while serving in the Iraq war. Every word of the piece is verbatim, based on interviews the author conducted with former soldiers. The play brings to light complex and challenging issues faced by this diverse group of women during their service, including misogyny, sexual assault, trauma, and isolation.
