María de Jesús Patricio Martínez has been nominated for Mexico’s presidential election next year, by Mexico’s National Indigenous Congress – a broad coalition of native ethnic groups – and the Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN). Patricio is indigenous Nahua from Tuxpan, a 53-year-old mother of three, renowned for preserving traditional indigenous medicine.
