Riverside-Salem: David Kowalski, Climate Change & Clean Energy Solutions.

October 22, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Riverside-Salem 10/22/17, 4 – 6 pm Program:  Climate Change & Clean Energy Solutions. (incl potluck) at our Environmental Cottage/Sanctuary, 3449 West River Road, Grand Island, NY 14072

David Kowalski, Ph.D., is a retired research scientist and a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists. He is active in the Climate Justice movement and promotes renewable energy, green jobs and a sustainable economy on his blog, Re-Energize Buffalo. He is a member of the Sierra Club, and in 2013 he received an award from the local Niagara Group for his leadership and effective communication of environmental issues.  He will present a slide show and  talk on Climate Change & Clean Energy Solutions. He says that we must take care of our natural world as if our lives and those of future generations depend on it — because, they do!

David will talk about what moved him to act on global warming and climate change a decade ago. He’ll review the science of how burning fossil fuels to provide energy is causing global warming and describe ways in which climate change is impacting people and our world.  He will address how the fossil fuel industry has amassed wealth by polluting our planet and has corrupted our political system with money to promote denial of established climate science. He will discuss the urgent need to curb climate change and the means to do it by moving beyond dirty fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy sources like the sun, wind, and falling water. A clean energy transition will cut pollution, improve health, and create new, permanent jobs.

We invite the general public, members of the faith community, of our town advisory boards and our elected officials to participate in this event and to discuss how Grand Island contributes to the greenhouse gas problem and what we can do about it (we are especially interested in learning about town’s renewable energy/energy conservation initiatives that have been implemented and ones that are needed).  We will also begin a discussion of how the Grand Island faith community can promote the  reduction of  greenhouse gas emissions of our buildings and in our town as a whole.

You may want to watch this 10-minute video indicating the climate crisis is urgent, but the solutions are at hand:
