NYS Environmental Agenda for 2022 with Roger Downs

Have you resolved to do more for the environment in 2022?

Are you concerned about the climate crisis but wondering how you can make a difference? Please join our Sierra Club Niagara Group for monthly Information Sessions designed to inform our members and inspire action.

Our core group of active Niagara Group members have some amazing past accomplishments, including solar on the rooftops of Buffalo Public Schools and the NFTA purchase of electric buses. Won’t you join us to see what 2022 can bring and how you can take part?

To kick start our new series of Information Sessions, we will have Roger Downs, Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter, Conservation Director. Roger has represented us in Albany for over ten years. He is well-versed in our State’s legislative and regulatory landscape.

Roger will speak on the State’s environmental outlook for 2022, including Governor Hochul’s budget and our Chapter’s legislative goals for 2022. This is a great opportunity to learn about the exciting legislative initiatives Sierra Club will be supporting, ask questions, and become active in New York’s environmental and energy agenda.

Marc Jacobson’s Updated Plan for 100{18f4e0a41fddb2e88741536e88191ef0d4c56a815c6739466934f6385f4e0c26} Renewable Energy
Nine years ago, Stanford professor Marc Jacobson & colleagues published their plan for 100{18f4e0a41fddb2e88741536e88191ef0d4c56a815c6739466934f6385f4e0c26} renewable energy for New York State. He later extended the plan to the entire US. Jacobson assumed hydro would play a big role in keeping the lights on, and received considerable heat over that assumption. Jacobson now walks back the hydro assumption and says batteries can play a huge role. If we are not going to tear up Mother Earth for more hydro, we now face the problem of cleanly and fairly tearing up Mother Earth to extract the metals necessary for those batteries — without destroying rain forests. He published his new plan two months ago.
