On Zoom (Meeting ID: 843 4514 5004 and Passcode: 023625).

Please join us for an opportunity to share your lived experience and/or perspective on the Erie County Holding Center, and to hear from authorities. Superintendent – Jail Division, Thomas Diina will be attending, as will Miles Gresham, Esq., and Heron Simmonds, members of the Corrections Specialist Advisory Board. Heron, Racial Justice Taskforce Co-Chair, and other WNY Peace Center members, including its Racial Justice Taskforce and Prisoners’ Rights Taskforces, will also be involved. Other officials have also been invited (attendance tbd). (This is a NEW DATE, after the session was postponed by one week from 12/10 to 12/17, at Sup. Diina’s request due to a family health emergency.)

Please come to tell your story and hear what current plans are. We’ll start with a Community Agreement to ensure we have a productive conversation, in truth and love. Hope to ‘see’ you there, on Zoom.

Erie County 2021 Budget Hearing (Zoom)

On Zoom (Meeting ID: 847 7914 7342 and Passcode: 996568): public hearing on the 2021 County budget. The proposed budget again allocates over $100 million of county tax dollars to fully staff both jails, even though the jail population could be housed in either facility and the other could be completely closed. Please review this presentation on examples of jails being closed around the country.
Lastly, please share the survey about which jail should be closed. The survey will close Nov. 20th and we want as much public input as possible: http://tinyurl.com/ECHolding
