SURJ Buffalo Action Hour

Come take action with us! This SURJ Buffalo Action Hour is the chance to come together and learn more about decarceration and abolition, and then take action to support important Black and People of Color-led campaigns for policies seeking to create deeply needed change in the criminal legal system. We’ll call and email decision makers, sign petitions, and take other actions to flank the vital work happening across our local community, state, and country. Action Hours work best if you have your phone and a computer. We will get you all prepped and ready to take action. We hope you’ll join us and feel free to invite others too! These are a fun and meaningful way to push forward transformative change in our communities.

#CleanSlateNY Virtual Press Conference

Last week, Governor Hochul called for the passage of the Clean Slate Act in her State of the State. Her explicit support is a testament to the power of our collective organizing.
Clean Slate can’t wait – and we will build off this momentum as we fight to end perpetual punishment. This Thursday, join us for a virtual #CleanSlateNY press conference at 11am. RSVP here.

SURJ: Abolition Action Hour

Join SURJ for their first Abolition Action Hour of 2022! As usual, we’ll gather en masse on Zoom to take collective action together to close jails, defund police, invest in communities, and protect Indigenous rights to land and water. You’ll receive education and training in community, and then be supported to participate in frontline racial justice campaigns.

This month’s actions will include making sure people detained by ICE in Illinois are released under the Way Forward legislation, taking action in solidarity with Oʻahu Water Protectors, pushing for free phone calls in jails and prisons across the country, and joining the organizing work to stop detention expansion in Georgia.
